Beginning in 1960 with a small factory in Kwangju City, Samyang produced an average of twenty tires each day, yet hopes remained high and the company not only underwent a name change but also entered the world market a decade later after breaking the Korean record by producing over one million tires in one year- Kumho tires were in high demand, helping the firm to overcome the 1974 international oil crisis.
